more information on Douglas MacLaren
Doug holds a bachelor’s degree in History and Asian Studies from Holy Cross College in Worcester MA. For six years, he lived in Japan, where he owned and operated an English conversation school. Doug’s perspective on health and healing draws on his immersion in Japanese culture, as well as his own struggles with injuries. He says:
“I believe wellness begins with awareness. Acupuncture treatment provides empowerment toward awareness. It helps the body’s inherent energy, or Qi, to flow freely along its natural “information-rivers,” called meridians. It helps the body to remember its natural state: wellness. This re-connecting or re-opening can begin anywhere. It can begin with dietary advice, with deep breathing, or with just one well-placed acupuncture needle…”
With this integrated philosophy and ability to combine Chinese and Japanese techniques, Doug’s approach works well for individuals dealing with everything from acute physical pain to stress-related emotional issues. In his Massachusetts practice, Doug enjoyed treating individuals with conditions such as muscle and joint pain, sciatica, premenstrual and menstrual symptoms, anxiety, grief, fatigue, insomnia, Bell's palsy, acid reflux, sinus problems and other acute and chronic health conditions.
Doug is an avid sportsman who loves hiking, bicycling and a good game of chess. He has traveled widely in Asia, Europe, and South America, as well as in the United States. He and his wife Zoe practice yoga and meditation together, and enjoy cultivating their library of books ranging in topics from environmental sustainability to quantum physics. |
