follow-up treatments

The number and frequency of acupuncture treatments recommended depends on many things, including your general state of health, the complexity of your illness, and whether it is a chronic or acute condition.  While you may receive a suggested treatment plan on your first visit, your unique response to acupuncture will be important in determining your course of care. On each follow-up visit, you will be asked to describe any changes you noted after your last treatment and to indicate your level of pain or symptoms.

When acupuncture is used to address any problem, cumulative benefits generally come from a series of treatments.  While weekly treatments are common in the U.S. , in Asia and in research studies of acupuncture in this country, acupuncture is commonly provided several times a week. Please see "what you may expect (and when)"   for a discussion of variations in response and recommendations for follow-up.

Individuals who desire to use acupuncture for health maintenance and those who have no significant acute health problems often schedule acupuncture visits about once a season, or four or five times a year.  Seasonal visits provide an opportunity to “tune-up” any chronic condition and address any developing symptoms, and an offer a chance to discuss prevention and self-care during the season to come. Most seasonal treatments may be offered either in an individual session or in a group setting.

Whether you come for a group or individual treatment, always dress, if possible, in clothing that allows easy access to your arms up to your elbows and your lower legs up to your knees.

Please allow at least an hour and a half for follow-up visits.
